Having obtained my qualification in Podiatric Medicine in 1991 I developed an interest in diabetes and have been working in this specialty for over ten years. My interest in education developed whilst undertaking a research project for a master's module. Amputation data published in 2012 focused my attention on the need to develop better integration and take a more proactive approach to diabetic foot education for both Health Care providers ( HCP) and patients. I am the founding member of the Improving Diabetic Footcare Faculty, which is a voluntary network of HCP's and patients with an interest of driving down amputation rates. Data suggests amputation rates in our area have dropped from 1.4 in 2012 to 0.6 in 2016 which is now lower than the national average. It is hoped that better education may have helped to influence these figures
